FORENSIC ANALYSIS OF THE APRIL 11, 1986 FBI FIREFIGHT

Dr. Anderson is uniquely qualified to analyze the 1986 FBI Miami Firefight—widely regarded as the most deadly firefight in FBI history—and to explain in detail how and why the events unfolded.

He brings extensive expertise in medicine, forensic pathology, firearms, and martial arts, along with decades of research into the human body’s ability to withstand trauma and continue functioning. Dr. Anderson has completed numerous advanced firearms, close-combat, and security training programs, is a certified Glock armorer, and has taught self-defense and weapons-retention courses for law-enforcement agencies.

A 5th-degree Black Belt and certified Taekwondo Master, he served as U.S. National Taekwondo Team Physician (1981–1988) and as an Olympic Team Physician at the 1988 Olympic Games. He is also a national-level karate competitor and AAU Gold Medalist.

The FBI Firefight Study

Dr. Anderson became involved in studying the Miami Firefight after learning about it during advanced firearms training with John Farnham. With assistance from FBI agents who participated in the incident, he produced a preliminary forensic report that drew strong praise from Sergeant David Rivers of Metro-Dade Police, the officer in charge of the original crime scene.

The FBI subsequently engaged with the work, seeking to understand how the two felons—Platt and Matix—continued fighting despite being shot multiple times. Dr. Anderson conducted an unprecedented forensic analysis of every gunshot wound, documenting bullet origin, trajectory, tissue damage, and physiological effect. His work is widely recognized as the most comprehensive forensic analysis of a firefight ever produced.
